Message for the new WordPress user

Firstly, welcome to the fold. Or as most WordPress users call it, the community (still lower-case c).

Secondly, there are lots of helpful guides, articles and other online materials to be found which help you learn all about your new blogging toy. I’d recommend starting at the WordPress Codex and dig around there for a bit. Whether or not you discover what you need there (or elsewhere) but find yourself requiring further help, ask for it.

Thirdly, the lead developer, the person editing documentation on the Codex, the member providing solutions to problems in the support forums, the reader commenting on a blog in response to a query about WordPress, are volunteers. Everyone involved with WordPress is. Keep that in mind when looking for help or providing suggestions. In fact, think about volunteering as well, in whatever way you can.

Finally, the “Uncategorized” listing that appears on your blog? You can change that, you know.

So what will it take to be a “C”ommunity instead of “c”ommunity, Kaf? Or do you see it ever going that way?

I prefer it remain a small c, even when we’re in the millions. Big C means leaders and laws and all the “official” sort of group evolution that can drive one to frustration—or to reinstall MovableType.
