Backups and a week

posted on July 27, 2005

Just a quick mention that us WordPress folk are in the middle of WordPress Backup Week, which is not a week-long instruction in driving backwards but rather an effort to teach folk how to go about making copies of and protecting their WordPress installations. For those who know how to do this but for whatever reason haven’t done it recently, just consider it a reminder.

Backing up: it’s a Good Thing®.

Thanks for the reminder. ;) I think I would literally sit down and cry if my WP database got corrupted and I lost all of my posts. My host makes daily backups, so I wouldn’t lose much, but IF I lost everything… I would cry.

For a long time.

For my part, I use an Automator workflow that backs up my entire website (hosted elswehere), to my local HD every other night, and a I manually backup my database weekly (still looking for a way to automate this, but my host saves snapshots as well, so I’m not too worried).

Hmmm…interesting timing, this post. If you visit Jennifer over at geeksmakemehot.com, you’ll see that she accidentally dumped her entire DB into the ether. Poor thing…

Timing is something I tend to ignore. This is made easier by the fact that I don’t wear a watch. But it looks as if the WP gods were looking out for Jennifer. Sometimes a happy ending. Now if everyone got podz to do their backups for them…
