My Google

posted on June 7, 2005

So now you can have a personalized Google page with email (well, Gmail), some newsie bits, and…well, not a lot more for now. It’s like a “death to horkin’ graphics” version of My MSN, or a scrappier My Yahoo. It was a matter of time. I am surprised it took so long, though.

Note the cute drag and drop element for the featurette boxes. I guess that AJAX is here to stay.

Bah,
As with most things, you gotta be a USian to fully take advantage of the functionality.

Why personalize the Google Page rather than the Google News Page?

I take advantage of the Google Box in Safari and Firefox, so I’ve stopped going to the Google Page, but I still use the Google News Page. You can personalize Google News—so it seems kind of redundant to personalize the basic Google page, too. Just add the option to include gmail and local stuff to Google News and you’ve accomplished the same thing, right?
