Geek happy
Although I have a few off-line personal justifications for not being so, I’m actually in a good mood today. Some possible reasons for why that is:
- Did a little work on the computer for a family member, the sort of stuff that takes no thought on my part but seems like magic to the uninitiated. Constant claims of “if you had spent the last eighteen years on a computer it wouldn’t seem so amazing” still lead to glazed looks and awed utterances. So be it.
- I’m slowly finishing up on my most ambitious WordPress plugin to date. It’s not a seriously necessary tool to the world of blogging, but I suspect a good portion of WP users will be happy to have it.
- After #2 hits the streets*, I’ll return to an older fella to rev up its horsepower and overall handling. Already laid much of the groundwork there, so it’ll be rather like bolting on new parts and turning the engine over.
- Ten days ago I (quietly) implemented a very custom solution to comment spamming, specifically to ward off the vast amounts of the trackback version that collects in my moderation queue. And by vast I mean 1200-1500 a week. So far I’ve seen a couple dozen standard comment spams come through, which is about normal for me, and absolutely no trackback spam. Not a one.
Yeah, I’m certain #4 is the reason.
* Just realized I’ve lost count of the number of plugins I’ve written for WordPress. Nothing to lose a good mood over, but I really need to keep track of these things.

C’mon, Kaf…spill the beans…what’s straight poop on item #2? You can tell me; I can keep a secret.
