The logic of guff…oh yeah, and szubNet

posted on October 15, 2004

Let me (yet again) play the web site tour guide. I may need a hat for this…

First off, there’s the address (URL, URI, whatever). What’s with this guff[dot]szub[dot]net crap, eh? It may have been smarter to just go put the blog up top, name it szubNet, and be done with it. But then you know nothing about how my brain works. And that’s a good thing for you, as I certainly don’t enjoy being an expert on how my brain works! I did consider calling the blog szubNet (who knows what the future holds!), but it was still going to be just one part of the web site. My plans in toto (in Dorothy’s dog?) are still a bit nebulous, but they are there, and include more than the blog. And I like guff. It’s what I’m about. And after a raucous internal debate (remember that thing about my brain?), I chose to keep it for the blog. So there’s that.

About the name szubNet: that’s a bit of nearly nonsensical personal history I’d rather not go into right now. Maybe later.

As I mentioned yesterday, guff is not just guff, it’s now also Blurried Musings. This includes what entries I retained from the months I held subdomain squatting rights over at Burningbird. So don’t bother trying to compare the archives here with my Blogspot material. They’re a bit off. This commingling of blogs that were never intended to play together now makes for an interesting category set. You may ask why I didn’t just start from scratch, or split everything off to different blogs. And again, I refer you to your ignorance on my brain’s operation. Really, please avoid attempts to understand it. You’re better off. Nevertheless, here’s the current classification of categories:

  • A number of old Blurried Musings categories (what there were of them) were combined. For example, Fragments From the Memory Log, my little experiments at autobiography, are now with all wistful personal history entries under Memory Log; graphics-based material such as my Tarot cards and StatiCat comic are found in the Quip Art catchall, and the Brief Story Interludes are hidden amongst all things prosaic in Quick Lit.
  • All old guff entries are found, appropriately, in Ancient [G]uff. That’s not to say you can’t find them elsewhere, but those listed under other categories (of appropriate topic, naturally) are still, or rather also, linked to Ancient [G]uff. Don’t let it confuse you.
  • Two newer categories, Szub-Limn (site and meta-blogging matters) and Guffish (now with 50% more guff!), should not need much explanation. So I guess I’m done here.
  • Expect additional reorganizing over the coming months, and perhaps a few more categories—if I find it necessary.

I think that covers the main points I had rattling around. If there’s anything else I need to expound upon, feel free to complain. That’s what comments are for!
