There is something seriously warped
There is something seriously warped in religious thought (any religious thought — or perhaps I mean all) when one can FAQ something like this:
Q. Do Buddhists believe in a god?
A. No, we do not. There are several reasons for this. The Buddha, like modem sociologists and psychologists, believed that religious ideas and especially the god idea have their origins in fear… There are numerous religions, all claiming that they alone have god’s words preserved in their holy book, that they alone understand god’s nature, that their god exists and that the gods of other religions do not.
Yet follow up elsewhere with:
Q. …is there any proof that [Nirvana] exists?
A. No, there is not. But its existence can be inferred. If there is a dimension where time and space do operate and there is such a dimension - the world we experience, then we can infer that there is a dimension where time and space do not operate - Nirvana. Again, even though we cannot prove Nirvana exists, we have the Buddha’s word that it does exist.
I guess we can thank God Almighty the Buddha was not a liar…
